What Stride Does

Stride reads your step count from Apple Health and shows it where you actually look — the Dynamic Island while you're out walking, and a Lock Screen tile with your daily goal ring the rest of the day. Set a daily step goal from 1,000 to 50,000, and Stride tracks distance and duration during active walks. There are no accounts and no servers — everything happens on your device.

Apple Health Permission

Stride needs access to your step data in Apple Health to show your progress. This access is read-only — Stride never writes, modifies, or deletes anything in Apple Health.

If Health access is turned off, Stride can't show your step count or update the Dynamic Island and Lock Screen tile.

Live Activity Behavior

When you start a walk, Stride begins a Live Activity that shows your step count, distance, and duration in the Dynamic Island and on the Lock Screen. The Live Activity updates as you walk and ends automatically when you stop the walk in the app, or after Apple's system time limit for Live Activities is reached.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why isn't my step count showing up?

A: Make sure Health access is enabled for Stride in Settings → Privacy & Security → Health, and that your iPhone is tracking steps (Health → Browse → Activity → Steps should show data). Step counts on iPhone come from the device's built-in motion sensors.

Q: The Dynamic Island isn't showing my walk

A: Dynamic Island requires a compatible iPhone (iPhone 14 Pro or later) and Live Activities enabled in Settings → Stride → Live Activities. On other devices, the same live progress appears on the Lock Screen instead.

Q: Is my step and location data private?

A: Yes. Stride has no accounts, no analytics, and no servers of its own. Step data is read from Apple Health and stays on your device; location used during a walk is processed on-device to power the live Dynamic Island and Lock Screen updates and is never transmitted anywhere. See the full Privacy Policy for details.

Q: Does Stride need an internet connection?

A: No. Stride works completely offline — it makes zero network calls of any kind.

Troubleshooting

Step count seems off compared to another app

Stride reads the same step data Apple Health stores, so small differences from other apps usually come from how each app rounds or windows the day. Check Health → Browse → Activity → Steps for the source values.

Live Activity disappeared mid-walk

iOS occasionally ends Live Activities early to manage battery or system resources. Reopen Stride and start the walk again if this happens.
